Ten sentenced of cyber-bullying targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of spreading untruths regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to posting malicious remarks about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A circulating conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these assertions on her show and social networks, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she taught at his secondary school.
The couple married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
