The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue
As any major prize-giving event draws close, there’s always an outcry for the addition of new categories to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely during that awards season
- A different innovative game missed out that year
- A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
- Just some puzzle games scraped into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
